It was a cold and snowy day when Mrs. Mabel Myrtle Monley went to the front door and found three baby puppies in a basket without a note and no one there to ask where they came from. They were such playful little things crawling around over each other and their eyes were barely open. They must be just days old she told herself. Picking up the basket and taking it inside where she put them next to the fireplace figuring that if they were cold they would like this.
Three little puppies, she smiled and thought of all the friends who she knew and which could have been so thoughtful as to give them this gift. Well, she looked at each one and decided the very first thing she must do is name each one.
The black one with long ears and seemed to be more active and willing to move around the basket the most of the three she decided to make this easy she would just name her βMollyβ. So little Molly welcome to our home.
Smiling she now focused on the white one and said that will be easy even though I can see you like to chew on things and are going to be the problem child. From now on you will be known as βMableβ, little mischief.
Now as she finally looks at the third brown puppy she finds it sound asleep and as she strokes its little head the puppy looks up into her eyes and immediately she is in love for sure. Such a pretty puppy but it is sure unusual to have three puppies and each a different color. Well, I have named the others with part of my name no sense in changing now you will known as βLitttle Myrtleβ, from now on.
What a great Christmas present this is for my family. With three children and no father sense his passing away last year she thinks this could give the sunshine necessary to make this a very Merry Christmas after all.
The children feel in love with the puppies the same as Mable did and they were never short of attention. As the days to Christmas drew near the children had been running all over the neighborhood telling others of the new additions to the Monley family. Everyone in the family had found love and happiness with the three little puppies.
Just a few days before Christmas Mr. Goodman the next-door neighbor came over and ask, βMable I have a grandchild that would love to have one of these puppies would you be willing to sale me one?β OH, HEAVEN NO, I could never find which one of these puppies to give away they have already became part of our family and to choose which one I would let go would be like trying to decide which one of my children I would give up. I do not think a person in the world could chose one of those addorable little things over another. She looked over and Molley had knocked Johnny over and was licking his face and he was laughing. Turning she watched as Mabel knocked all the things over running aroud the Christmas tree. As usual Myrtle was sleeping away and not a movement.
Little Johnny her youngest son heard the conversation and when Mr. Goodman left her he looked up to his mother and ask Mother could I have Molley she loves me and hangs on me. Johnny you heard me say that I would not give up a puppy now why do you ask this? Well Mom you will not really be giving him up you will just be sharing Christmas with me more he says.
Johnny do you know the responsibility you would take on if I were to say yes to you? Yes Mom I think It would be like you telling us of your mother warning you about having a family. Why did you pick the black one she ask? I did not notice the color I saw the love and the attention she gave to me and that is all that I needed to make up my mind.
Johnny your answer was perfect for Christmas and because you see value in kindness and love and not a color I am going to give you that puppy. Another thing is i said no one could love one of these more than another.Β I was very narrow mined you showed me that one could be loved more than another I let mothers love judge. Never thaught of it but I chose your dad from his brothers. You pick a dog which will be your friend and that love will show. That really gets to the point, yes love is much deeper than i had realized. What i would really like to know is how did God know I wanted a puppy? Did you pray about it his mother ask? No he said i did not know I wanted a puppy untill she keep licking me. You know mom God loves all his children as we love our puppies but to be honest mom I think I am his favorite one.
And today it is the same throughout the neighborhood the love and attention was shared by allΒ the puppies and were welcomed into the neighborhood just as the Christmas Spirit was. Those three little puppies brought neighbors over to look and friendship was renewed many times on Christmas
